Since I'm used to Monster Rancher 1, I have to change my raising techniques drastically since this time they all last about 4 years. Right now, I have a Pixie/Golem that retired at 7 years old! Here is what I have so far: Baby (0 to 1 year): Give it milk every month. Train a single drill once and then rest, train again and rest again. Never do any errentries or battle no matter what this early on. Child (1 year to 3 years): Switch to the monster's favorite food. If it likes something other than basic food, then you'll have to try various foods until you get a happy reaction. You may now do errentries, but save before doing so. If your monster gets injured, be sure to reset your game and try again. Rest twice after every errentry and give it a mint leaf if it became stressed out. Only do the errentries when they are on a discount. Do not do any battles just yet... Adult (3 years to 6 years): You may now do battles, but save before doing so. If it gets hit too often, it may shorten its lifespan, so be careful. Don't forget to give it rest! Elder (6+ years): This is where you really have to be careful! save, save, and save! Your monster can also compete in the elder's cup, which the winner recieves a Silver Peach. Now would be a good time to feed that peach to your monster. Making an expedition monster: Follow the steps above, but concentrate on the following stats: Life, Power, and Intelligence. When these three stats reach level 7, raise your monster's rank to C and make sure its fame is at least 50. After every expedtion, whether successful or not, rest your monster twice and feed it a mint leaf. A failed expedition is said to reduce the lifespan of your monster, so try and return to base on time! The Volcano expedition has to be at least rank B and 70 fame. The higher the Intelligence of the monster, the better it is at finding items. A higher Life rating lets you explore longer. Power doesn't really matter, except that you need just enough to qualify to be asked to go on an expedition and to break down any barriers you may encounter during your trip. Easy money: On the fourth week of October, Freeze your current monster and go to the shrine. Put in the Monster Rancher 1 game to create a Sueki Suezo. Go battle in the Free-For-All and win the Heel Badge. Your Suezo will die the next week, but you can still sell the Heel Badge for 5,000 gold! Repeat next year, until you get enough Errentry money for your other monsters. obtaining a Silver Peach: This one's tough. You need to follow the above steps on making your monster live longer, but make sure that you concentrate on Skill and either Power or Intelligence, depending on its best B-S% hit ratio. You may have to use a Golden Peach on it just to get one. You are limited to using only one Golden Peach and/or one Silver Peach per monster, though. __________________________________________________________________ Unlocking Monsters: Unlocking Ghost and Mock: Use the Easy money tip above. For the Ghost, you'll get the chance to upgrade the headstone twice. You'll then get a stick after the second upgrade. Take that stick and use it to combine any two monsters with it. For the Mock: sometime in the game, the store will give away some mysterious seeds. Plant the seeds. After many years on the ranch, the tree will blossum and then die. When Colt asks you to water it, say "yes". Now another monster has to die for the Mock to come alive. Use Sueki Suezo for that purpose also. Unlocking Durahan: Find the sheath in the Prepare Jungle. When your monster gets to rank A, it will be invited to an invitational after the shop keeper talks about missing swords. If you beat the monster at the invitational, you recieve a sword. use this sword to mix two monsters together to get the Durahan. Unlocking Centuar: Take the Mandy (Power) Errentry until your monster discovers a spear. Your monster will then engage a Centuar on the ranch. After the battle, take the spear and use it to combine two monsters with it to make your own Centuar. Unlocking Hengars, Galis, Mews, and Worms: Most of the other FAQs out there omit one very important factor in unlocking these monsters: you HAVE to win the 4th week of July Elimination tournament. The Ima Vs. Fimba meet you only have to compete in, you don't have to win this, however. Unlocking Ducken: Get a monster that likes Cup Jelly and feed it to him until you get five diamond marks. When you get your Fun Can, sell it to the shop. Now go to the winter (Feb 1st week) expedtion and search the nearest tree from the base camp. If you get the Strong Glue, obtain another Fun Can by getting five more diamond marks. This time, use the Strong Glue with the doll and use it for combining. You can't get rid of the Strong Glue, but you can use it to sell the doll to the shop for an easy 3,000 gold. Unlocking Phoenix: You have to win the Phoenix Cup, which is an A Rank tournament in the third week of April. When you do, take the Volcano expedition (1st week of June) and explore the central volcano with the bird statue entrance. You should be able to find a Fire Feather in here as well as a God's Slate. Take the Fire Feather to the Lab to combine with two monsters to unlock the Phoenix. (note: one file I didn't even need the God's Slate...hmm...) Unlocking Dragons: Your trainer rank needs to be at least level 7 and your monster's class has to be B rank. You should receive an invitational to the August 2nd week tournament and face a dragon. Win the battle to obtain the Dragon Tusk, which you use to combine monsters with. Unlocking Beaclons: Get a Worm to a loyalty of 90 or better. On its fourth year in June, make sure that its "Well Rested" and it will form a coocoon. Unlocking Undines and Nitons: Train a Hopper to B class. Pretty soon, it will uncover a hot springs. (the Hopper should at least have level 7 power, level 7 skill, and level 7 speed if you want to beat the official C Rank tournament). Unlocking Jill: You need to find the Big Footprints in the winter expedition. It is located in the far right corner of the map. I had an Omega (Hengar/Zuum) with level 17 skill and a rank of A, so skill may also be a factor. You now need to go to the Speed errentry until you get a random occurance with one. Use the item to combine monsters with. (note: you also need a trainer rank of 7 to get the encounter) Unlocking Zilla: Like the Jill, get a trainer rank of 7 and a monster of B Rank or more. Take the Skill Errentry until you randomly encounter King Zilla. Use the item to combine monsters with. Unlocking Joker: The Joker Mask is in the Volcano expedition, located in the upper right shrine of the map. Unlocking Wracky: Once again, you need a trainer's rank of 7 or better. Next, you need an S class monster with a fame 90 or more. Sometime later, a fan will send you a doll. Colt will creep out and ask if you should throw it away. Say no. A week later, it'll move and Colt will ask if you moved it. I said no here, but this question may not matter. The next creature that dies will become the Wracky monster. Unlocking Metalner: This is entirely random, on a clear September's night sky, you will be visited by an alien. This will happen two more times. On the third clear night, you'll be given a crystal pillar and be told to take it to the Shrine. Nothing happened for me, but maybe that's because I didn't even get the "Do you believe that Aliens exist?" question. This happened in my 8th Trainer Rank, by the way. Unlocking Bajarl: Your trainer rank needs to be 8th level this time. On the fourth week of May, ask to have your house upgraded to its final level, at a cost of 20,000 gold. When you find out Binto's secret, he will let you have the Magic Pot. Use this to combine monsters with to get a Bajarl. (Note: you may now carry over Magic monsters from Monster Rancher 1 by using the Slate option at the Shrine) _______________________________________________________________ Miscilenious: Monster behaviors: A pure Pixie often acts like a spoiled rich girl. she will often ask for perfume and other vanity items. avoid raising one, if you can. Moochis and Hoppers will sometimes give you little presents, give these to other monsters for a small loyalty boost. The Rank B Hopper is the key to unlocking Undines. Colorpandora: they tend to ask for potato. since its cheap, why not give it some? Durahan: They love to battle, just make sure that there is a tournament before you agree, otherwise you'll drop its loyalty. After a succesful battle, sometimes Durahans ask for Colohart Tea. it costs 700 gold, so its up to you. Phoenix: they never die....they just fly away. Undines: They mostly have Intelligence attacks and train very well in that skill. They are also good monsters at heart and as a result of this, have good-based attacks. a "Best" natured Undine will give you presents as well. Centuars: They will either give you Shiny Stones and Meteorites...or ask for very expensive gifts for themselves, depending on whether they turn out to be bad or good. They have mostly Power attacks. Wracky: does very well in the Leap Drill. Jill types: Likes the Speed Errentry. If he/she/it cheers, then there's a good chance that the monster will do "Great!". There are hidden moves that can be unlocked. One for "goodies" and the other for "baddies". feed the monster its favorite food for a couple years and then give it some Smoked Snakes until its style goes back to "Even". Never, I repeat, NEVER take a baby monster to an Errentry. _________________________________________________________________ Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Why should I buy Monster Rancher 1? A: There are two reasons why you should buy the first game. First of all, The Sueki Suezo is the monster that can help you in many ways...even though it lasts 1 week. And finally, You can transfer any monster over from #1 if you unlock its type first. The transfered monster will have slightly better stats than a CD IF you trained it right in the first place. Q: where can I buy Monster Rancher 1? A: Check you local video game trading store, pawn shops, software stores, or shop online at an online store. Q: How do I play my "backup" of Monster Rancher 2? A: you don't. This is a great game and Tecmo deserves every penny from it! Q: Why would I want to keep a monster in a "bad" or good nature? A:Well, some techniques can only be obtained by keeping a monster in one mood or the other. A Joker, for example, must remain "Bad" in order to get most of its attacks. Q: Were you sent here by the devil? A: No, good sir, I'm on the level! Q: when will that Monster Rancher 2 webpage finally be finished? A: When I get the time to finish it. I also have other pages and other FAQs to attend to. please be patient. (update: ummm..oh yeah, its finished...well, as finished as it ever will be!) Q: Hey, I just got this here Playstation 2 thingy...can I play Monster Rancher 2 on it? A: yes. Q: should I buy Monster Rancher 3 for the PS2 when it comes out? A: You can if you want to...however, I dont like its cartoony looks, so I might not buy it... Q: If a Mock falls on a Monster Trainer in a forest...does he make a sound? A: yeah. he goes "AH! AHH! Get it off of me!" :-) Q: Hey buddy! When are you going to make that !#$%^&%* Monster Rancher 3 page?! A: After learning that you can't freeze OR combine monsters anymore, I've decided to push back that date to...oh say...the year 2525 A.D. Q: ...Did I just see an update to that Monster Rancher 1 page??? A: Yes you did, and no, this isn't the year 2525. __________________________________________________ Credits: Monster Rancher and Monster Rancher 2 are copyrighted by Tecmo.
